Thank you so much Teresa! Now all of the people who have seeds I've passed out over the last 2-3 years can name the parent, because this was the only seedling from that batch which made the 'final cut', and used the pollen or pod from  lol

Side story....  Someone asked me where I came up with the name, and it's actually a double entendre, yet somewhat spectacular to me. One evening strolling the plants, I saw it's big flush with flowers opened in all different stages on it's crown, and there was a beautiful sunset with a pink and orange summer sky. I've heard the term as a "Vermilion Sky" used for that type of sunset, and it resembled the color of the flowers at their prime. Then, secondly I was so proud of Volker and his achievement, that I wanted to name the flower after Volker Sanders, in response to it, he said he never wants anything with his name on it (and I quote "I will stop pollinating when I see my name on a flower") lol. So honoring that, I wanted to have his initial V in the name. The fact that "S" as in Sky and Sanders was in there was the second sign this is truly the name it should have.

Here's a photo of them opening day from last July. At 3:00 in the afternoon, they're already colored up and by the night time, the color just richens with the fuchsias and oranges begin to take the background. It's really a beautiful sight. The best part for me is the fragrance. Intense, like Tangerines and Jasmine.

Gorgeous! It reminds me of the skies we have every so often. The sky gets so red that everything here on the ground takes on a reddish hue.

Thanks so much for the compliments all, but it's really Volker's creation. I just surrogated it into maturity
This one in particular is currently being crossed and re-crossed on it's second generation. Once I have finished using it's flowers for pods and pollen, I plan on getting this into circulation, because I want everyone to experience this amazing fragrance and the overall structure and growth of the tree. The fact that this one is a dual color is like icing on the cake.

The flowers on my icon are this cultivar. Last night, I inspected and am excited to see Vermilion Sky forming tiny buds, which means it won't be long before I can post more photos of flowers.

Stunning color on this one. Kinda reminds me of the colors I get on MADM in the fall here.

Thanks Lenette and Patricia. @Char..because it has lots of Versicolor genetics, it probably is the best flower for the heat I have. I also note that it's great when the summer nights are warm. The fragrance drifts for what seems forever.

At the request of others, I finally had a chance to get a decent photograph of VS winter color. This one has been putting out blooms since about a week after Christmas, and to my surprise the pink has darkened up a lot in the cool weather, overpowering the orange undertones. I find this quite a contrast to others like Pink Beauty and Painted Lady who don't darken up much with cool evenings. However, I've always found this tri-color pretty striking nonetheless.

'Vermilion Sky' is a real doll the softer pink & orange tones are stunning
but when it comes to the cooler weather the deeper pink is also great on this Double babe
great work on producing this 1 RJ with the breeding from Volker Sanders

Shaun, thank you! It's been a joy and huge pleasure to have Vermilion Sky. I have already used it in more crosses than any other I have ever done. Just because of the magnitude of attributes I see this one contributing to future generations. Whatever anyone can dream up they like about a double multi-colored brug, this one's got it! I'll never forget what Volker told me when I presented the flower to him "This one has everything in it".

Today marks a benchmark for the lovely Vermilion Sky. I'm more than chuffed to announce it has been accepted into the collection of the Los Angeles Botanic Garden to be a permanent part of their plant exhibits. I cannot describe what this means, as I had selected this tree as it has very special meaning beyond just it's beautiful flowers. I wish to see this flourish and create a magnificent tree for the hundreds of thousands of people who visit each year.

This is the fax I had received regarding this and another cultivar which will be placed somewhere in the vicinity also for the public to enjoy.

    LAArboretumFax1

I only hope this is just the beginning of modern brugmansia cultivars being displayed in more gardens and arboretums throughout the US for the public to enjoy and appreciate.

I'm happy to say that both will be in protected areas where these will not be damaged nor cut from passersby, and will be maintained under my direction on growth and maintenance.
